Why not install the software while I'm waiting for the Kit to arrive ! The kit will include the FRDM-KV31 and FRDM-MC-LVPMSM. I am using a Acer laptop with Windows 10 installed. NXP provides a robust library of software and information to support the FRDM-KV31. I might as well troubleshoot any issues with the software now. I think these may be the tools I need so here is a summary of the installations. For this blog I am using only screen shots until I have the hardware installed. Once I have the hardware then I will include videos. If you double click on the image you should get a clear view. Here's where I landed for the software required:
1. FreeMaster Run-Time Debugging Tool
I had no issues with the install. NXP states this is a user-friendly real-time debug monitor and data visualization tool
2. Kinetis Design Studio 3.2.0
The download went smooth but when the Security Scan ran I received an error:
"The signature of Kinetis-design-3.2.0.exe is corrupt or invalid"
I am almost certain this is a Windows 10 "not playing nice" issue. I knew this was a trusted site so went to my downloads and ran the .exe. It installed with no issue. I had a few warnings that the publisher was unknown but just bypassed the warning.
The Kinetis Design Studio has the look and feel of Code Composer Studio.
3. SDK_1.3 for KV31F120M
You have to build the platform before you download the Software Development Kit. I think this is the correct version I will need. You have to fill in some info on why you want to download this software.
4. Kinetis Motor Suite
Kinetis Motor Suite enables the design of sensorless PMSM motor control applications. NXP states this will allow those with limited or no motor control experience to develop an application.
I had to define the path to the SDK.
Summary
I think that may be all the software I need for this project. When I installed Kinetis Design Studio it did install PE Drivers. The SDK files provide examples to test. I already have and used Tera Term and Putty as terminals on previous projects.
