Next time I will try to hook up the Hall effect sensors to see if I can work at lower speeds.

    Hi Doug, The hall sensors should always allow you to know which phase in the commutation cycle you're at (i.e. even with a stall), whereas with the sensorless method you won't know at very slow speeds…

    Nice update Douglas.

     

    I am curious about your low speed issues.  Is it a case of needing the right sequence and is that an issue for how you can load the motor?

     

    Have you looked at the similarities with the TI Instaspin approach?

    Hi DAB.

    I have not looked at the TI approach.

    I noticed when setting a low speed demand that the system would eventually lose its correct commutation timing, especially under load, and just vibrate back and forth. It still seems to have enough torque to rotate, (after all, I am running with no load) - it just seems the commutation timing is no longer correct. I guess if it is not spinning, there is no back-emf to sense commutation position.
