BLOG# 1 - My Idea - Weather Remote Monitoring System
This blog is part of a blog series for the N-gaged Design Challenge. The sponsor of the challenge OMEGA, has supplied me with there Layer N Ecosystem Bundle that is used to implement my idea This blog will describe the idea I have for designing and implementing a Weather Remote Monitoring System, using the kit supplied to me for this challenge. I will describe my Idea, state my goals for the project, describe the supplied kit and listing my Project Plan by describing each Blog in this series,
BLOG Series INDEX
- Blog# 1 My Idea
- contains an introduction to my Idea.
- Blog#2 Design
- This blog will include the Design of my Idea.
- Blog#3 Implementation
- This blog will include the implementation of the Basic Design described in the previous blog in this Series.
- Blog#4 Testing
- This blog will do testing, on the implementation of the design
- Blog#5 Conclusion
- This is the final blog in the series. I demonstrate the remote weather station running. I give some conclusions as to what I have gained from this Design Challengeand list some possible enhancements that can be added to make the system more useful.
My Idea
- Utilizing the Supplied components, i envision a monitoring dashboard in the cloud that will report the weather conditions in a remote weather enclosure outside of my home.
- Data will be monitored from the inside and outside environments of the case.
- Weather sensors will be placed inside of the enclosure and used to collect the data and send it to the Dashboard for analysis.
- The supplied Sensors will be used to sense the environments inside and outside of the case.
- The data will be communicated over the air to a gateway inside my home.
- The Dashboard exist in the cloud and will be able to be accessed from anywhere by PC, Tablet or smartphone.
- A napkin diagram of my idea
- This Idea is based on another Design Challenge that I just finished. I completed the Just Encase challenge sponsored by Hammond Manufacturing. The Just Encase project uses the following supplied components:
- 2 Arduino MKR WAN 1300 MCU (LoRa WAN connectivity)
- Arduino Cloud
- 2 Enclosure Cases supplied by Hammond Manufacturing
- Various sensors.
- The Just Encase challenge is also a Remote Weather project. My plan is to use the design from that challenge and implement a solution using the OMEGA Layer N Ecosystem Bundle. The only components I will probably end up using are the 2 Hammond enclosures..
- This Idea is based on another Design Challenge that I just finished. I completed the Just Encase challenge sponsored by Hammond Manufacturing. The Just Encase project uses the following supplied components:
SO lets get to it, shall we.
My Goals for this Design Challenge
My main goal for this challenge will be to be able to implement my design idea, but in order to accomplish this task, I plan to also attain the following goals
- 1) Getting to fully understand each component of the sponsored supplied Kit.
- Wireless Gateway 9GW-001-3-NA)
- Wireless Temp/Humidity Sensor (SS-002-1-NA)
- USB to Smart Probe Interface (IF-001)
- M12 4-pin female connector (M12-S-F-FM
- Temperature Smart Probe {SP-005-01)
- 2) HOW DO Layer-N Products Work together?
- Plug And Play
- Connections between layers
- Configurations
- ETC.
- 3) Range Transmission between Gateway Layer and Sensor/Smart Probes
- Test the range claims made for these products
- Transmission ranges up to 1.2km*(Up to 3.2km* when using external power) *Clear line of sight
- How do I plan to test the range?
- 4) Layer-N Cloud
- Configuring dashboards
- Data Logging and Storage
- Notifications and alarms
- Accessible via mobile and desktop
- Configuration of Devices.
- Design and implementation of Dashboards
- Configuring dashboards
