Question for Path to Programmable 3 participants about tools installation

Question for Path to Programmable 3 participants: Did you install Vivado and Vitis on Windows or on the Linux Ubuntu 18.04 virtual machine?  Can the training labs be done in Windows? I have Vivado and Vitis already installed on Windows, but the Lab0 instructions point to Virtual Machine installation followed by installing Vivado and Vitis on the Linux system.

You summed it up quite well. Hardware (Vivado) and software (VITIS) can be done on any platform. Petalinux requires Linux. Whether the linux is running inside a VM or directly on the system doesn't…

Thank you saadtiwana_int and navadeepganeshu for your answers. I had the same thoughts that only the Petalinux training has to be done on Linux. Thank you for confirming this. For me it is much easier…

Good question and I was hit across the same doubt.

It seems the hardware and software lab series can be done on windows using recommended version of Vivado and Vitis, but the petalinux series requires Linux environment run over virtual machine or dual-boot for the OS image configuration and generation which will then be loaded through SD card or sent through Wi-Fi to be booted on the board.

I'd be curious to know more on this if someone has done this process already.

Thank you saadtiwana_int and navadeepganeshu for your answers.  I had the same thoughts that only the Petalinux training has to be done on Linux.  Thank you for confirming this.  For me it is much easier to install that version of Ubuntu on a different hard drive and boot the computer from that drive than to go through the entire procedure of setting up a virtual machine.  One more reason for which I have decided not to use the virtual machine besides that the procedure is quite complicated, is that I haven't seen a procedure on how to remove the virtual machine from my system later if I decide to remove it.

I don't think it's difficult to solve these problems but since I had already done the installation of the virtual machine I've gone the easiest way.
