What if I try to use Vivado 2023.1 in place of Vivado 2021.1 which is used in the tutorials? Would this be considered a violation?

Yes, I have found differences in Vitis/Vivado 2023.1 and training 2021.2. It takes extra time to figure out, and even there are changes in some base addresses etc.
