I just spent almost 200 € to purchase the stuff I need for my project.

I have had this idea for a couple of years and I planned to do it with Arduino, but never got the inspiration to start. Now the challenge might be good enough excuse to get things going. Anyway finishing the project is so unsure, that I don't even want to apply as a challenger.

    Juha, you have two options to get something out of this

     

    1) If you want you can apply to be an official challenger, you would get a free kit bundle if you are sucessful.

    2) if you dont become an official challenger, as long as you post your build updates in this group 10(+) Times you would win a finisher prize just for that.   (T&Cs apply)

    I'm a bit like Juha as well. I'd quite like to have a go at this but not being sure of being able to complete I'm reluctant to apply to be an official Challenger, but I might join as an unofficial participant. I may be buying a Raspberry Pi for something else anyway so I could do this as well, especially if I can involve a mobile robot into it somehow. I wonder if I could fit a Raspberry Pi into TinyMobot?

    I would always push people with good ideas to try be official, just gives you the push to finish your 10 blogs over the 15 week build period.

    If you do want a chance at winning a prize, the only required bit of kit is the Raspberry Pi 3B+

    I'm not so sure it is a good idea as I have just looked up the Pi 3B+ and realised it will not fit inside the body shell of a TinyMoBot. Maybe his big brother NotSoTinyMoBot, or even possibly QuiteALotBiggerMoBot.

    Maybe the good folk at Element14 Team will let you use a Pi Zero W instead? After all, anything you can do on there could be easily ported across to the Pi 3 B+ meaning anyone could replicate your PiCasso project albeit they need a slightly larger bot to put it in.

     

    It would be a shame not to see your idea evolve and include TinyMoBot.

    Well, all things are possible. My preference though is to try and stick within the criteria given as it is more challenging to design to exteria constraints than to adapt the requirements to suit myself. To be compatible with all the other challengees (challengers?) I would want to use the Raspberry Pi 3B+. I looked up the Pi Zero W which although smaller, still will not fit inside the shell of TinyMoBot, so it would have to be a bigger TinyMoBot anyway. I could just make a much bigger mobile robot anyway, possibly a flat one and call it FlatMoBot, which might be fun, trying to make it as low profile as possible but not worrying about the area.
