Raspberry Pi and Karaoke 2nd Week

Hi,

I am excited to tell you about that I received my kit on this week’s Wednesday. It was like a gift for me in this valentine’s week ;).

The box contain Raspberry Pi Model B 512MB version, Pi Face and Display, Wi-Pi and 8GB SD card pre-installed with NOOBS.

As everyone my family, friends and neighbours who see this asked me few questions like, What is this?, How it helpful?, What is its application?, Why to use only this?.

What is this?
This is Raspberry Pi, a credit card sized computer which is capable of perform most of the task which an ordinary computer can perform.
Moreover this can be used to interfaced this with digital sensors, display etc

How it is helpful?

It can be used with most of displays like ordinary TV, Monitors, HDTV and LCD. Also this can be helpful for creating & editing documents, programming, HD media solution with internet connectivity and lot more things.

What is its application?

It can be used to convert ordinary TV into smart TV in digital age. It can be used to create a robot, a data logger, a web browser and alot which a computer can do.

Why to use only this?

Best and simple reason is because of its cost. Apart from that a low powered device which can be operational at standard mobile charger. And moreover it extra features in small budget.

Pi-Face Control and Display

It is device which allows users to use and control raspberry Pi without monitor and keyboard which significantly removes the use of other display making the device handier to use and saves power.
The Pi-Face CAD has onboard 16x2 LCD display and 5 tactile switches for input which removes the use of keyboard and Display for small application. Moreover to this it has IR remote transceiver which is helpful for controlling it with ordinary IR remote wirelessly using simple lirc libraries in RPi.

I have received the 8GB class 4 memory card with preinstalled NOOBs. It allows users to install varieties of OS among Raspbian, RaspBMC, Pidora, RISC OS, Arch Linux and OpenELEC. Installing these OS is very easy task and has just few steps to follow.

What Extra things I need to use Raspberry Pi

For using the Raspberry Pi I need few more important things like a micro USB adopter. It is not so costly and also a mobile charger can work with it but a small condition that for Raspberry Pi model B it should be more than 800mA. But I found that too in my home.

Another is a power USB hub. It is not that important but it can be useful when connecting more than 2 USB devices. A simple hub can also do this task but because of low USB power efficiency of RPi power USB hub might be important. I have ordered that one from snapdeal.
