SIM card reader as usb to serial for arduino?

I am wondering if anyone has tried to use this sim card reader as a usb to serial for arduino?

THis has only the 74HC04 inverter and an IC that appears to be a PL2303 though they erased/scratched off he label/ID.

I am looking into the possibility of creating a PCB with headers in a SIM card form factor. What do you think.

Looking at Smart card (Sim card) to PC adapter cable (sim reader/writer) schematic pinout diagram @ pinouts.ru it may be possible. There may be extra pin(s) needed here being 6 vs what a USB to avr would need. Not sure of the correct TTl levels. My questions is why try? There are FTDI interfaces that will work for sure. BTW, you should move this to Arduino section to get responses since this is for a design challenge on Raspberry Pi.
