Pioneering Pmodifications

image

Pmods are a quick way of getting peripherals connected and working.

They are trademarked and designed by Digilent for use with their CPLD and FPGA training kits.

The designers of the PSoC 4 Pioneer Kit had the foresight to include a Pmod compatible port to expedite development and it did in my case.

The connector is not supplied you so you'll need to provide your own if you plan to use it.

Be aware that the pins used for the Pmod compatible port are also pinned out elsewhere so if you plan to use a Pmod make sure those pins aren't connected to anything else.

I made my own Pmod adapter PCBs to enable the connection of multiple Pmods to the Pioneer Kit.

Pictured above is the adapter I designed for the PmodSSEG a Dual 7 segment LED display used in conjunction with a PModSWT (4 switch module)

Pictured below is own Pmod compatible board to add some additional Tact switches to the Pioneer Kit and Pioneer LED board.

    Hi Victor,

Another of the competitors has considered hooking up some e-paper for this challenge.

As for the LCD refresh, I've left the PSoC 4 to do that with its default settings.

    No additional components were required.

    Cheers

Yeah, that's also what amazed me during the Energy Harvesting challenge; the LCD took little to no energy! Wouldn't you like to hook up your e-paper for this thing, or will you be refreshing a lot?

    Thanks Don,

It could have been me with Part 002 where I used a Static LCD display.

The nice thing about using the Static LCD display is that with the PSoC 4 it can still display whilst in deep sleep and sleep modes.

According to the literature a LCD can draw little as 3.1uA in deep sleep mode.

Achieving this requires toying around with the LCD contrast.

    Hi Monte,

    Good post.

I saw someone else post about the segment displays.  Hopefully they will see this post and use it to solve their problem.

Yea, the PSOC guys did their homework with the board.  These things are just amazing.
