First week almost over - More than a geocaching for the car update

First week almost over.

Have been reading other participants posts and all are very interesting in their unique ways. Props to all and honor to be sharing this experience with you all.

The PSoC is almost here and will be just in time to carry it with me during next week business trip. Entertainment for lonely Hotel nights, oh yes!

While preparing for the arrival of the chip, I did an informal block diagram of what the system should be and the interconnections (bellow).

I have no experience using directly SPI communications but like can be seen on this picture, I plan to use it a lot. Exploring the "system on a chip" capabilities of the PSoC should make it very attractive for a lot of solutions and cannot wait to start trying it.

Week Update:

  1. First Blog post of the project (Done)
  2. Identify parts and send part list for ordering.
    1. Some were out of stock, selected substitutes and hope they arrive on time and I am able to make them work.
    2. CO2 sensors are more hard to get that I originally thought. Prototype may not have CO2 sensor installed but expandable to.
    3. Added on an LCD to provide in system status and a GUI.
  3. PSoC arrival (should arrive tomorrow)
    1. Tracking number and it is on the island, should get to me tomorrow (hopping to)
  4. Install PSoC creator (on Linux not working, switching to windows)
  5. Build informal block diagram to organize and beautify documentation.
  6. Re-think system and divide it in modules (working on)
  7. Working on a name for my project .... (coming soon)

(The arrow on the LCD should be both sides because of the buttons)

My failure this week was trying to install the PSoC creator on Linux Mint by using wine. I have to give it a try, too bad. So I am forced to boot into windows to code the PSoC.

The road to success is full of experiences that others may call failures.

    Hi Javier,

I installed the PSOC Creator on my Windows side of the laptop (dual boot system). I think it's a pitty there's no native Linux application for PSOC, most design tools do have a (sometimes troublesome) working solution for Linux,

Try setting it up using a direct connection first.

Once you verify the protocol and synchronization issues you only have the RF issues to worry about.

    Thanks!

Today I got the PSoC via mail and will start with samples and my goal is to connect a bluetooth module to send/receive data from a phone.

Will post progress as soon as I have any.

    Hi Juan,

I usually learn ten times the things after a failure than I learn during a success.

I usually found manufacturers spec sheets to be a lesson in creative writing with limited fact verification.

Still, it looks like you have an nice ambitious project.

I look forward to seeing your progress.

    DAB
