A small update which may be a big issue

Issue is resolved

Today I received an email from UPS.

It was about Customs.

That wonderful thing that everyone hates.

To put it bluntly, the kit for Sudden Impact is stuck at a UK airport and I am being questioned for information that I don't have. Farnell is trying to sort this out on my behalf, but I am afraid that if everything does not work out as it should this'll be my last update.

Yes, I am probably worrying too much about this, and everything will probably be fine in the end, but it's not something I've ever had to deal with before.

Anyone else been in a similar situation?

Josh

Too bad. Looks like you need to rely on Farnell to solve this problem

Yes, same thing here. Hopefully they will be able to sort it out.

Indeed, according to UPS Farnell have paid for the freight, but apparently I am responsible for duty and tax - as far as I am aware Farnell are in touch with the UPS Brokerage to get this sorted.

Good to hear I am not the only one that is having issues - best wishes for your project too.

Now that you say it I looked at the paper in the package. The Incoterms (T&Cs of payment and delivery) are 'FOB' which means I would need to pay for customs and delivery. It should have been DDP (#Delivery and Duty Paid'). I will see if UPS sends me an invoice, maybe Farnell can sort this out beforehand (but IIRC the terms were the same last time, and I didn't get an invoice back then)

It seems that despite every attempt by element14/Newark, the UPS system is incapable of going through to countries in the manner intended.

This is dissapointing in the challenges, as it can add considerable delays, as well as costing the participants which is not the intention.

You should email Christian and pass on any cncerns and problems so he can feed it back for a resolution.

I already have - as a student I can't afford to pay the fees.
