My Finisher Prize!

Hello everyone!

After participating in the "Summer of Sensors Design Challenge" I received this Multicomp Pro MP730655 multimeter as a finisher bonus. Pictures in the gallery below. I wanted to do a blog about this DMM for some time, but I didn't have the opportunity until now. For me this Multicomp is very useful because my DMM is a bit limited. Nice and compact, but it still lacks a few things and it seemed to me that sometimes it has deviations in the measurements.

What I want through this blog is simply to show you this Multicomp MP730655, how it measures, what I like about it and what I like less.

Let's start with the main features offered by the manufacturer.
Features MP730655:
• Display Count 2000
• Manual Range
• Battery Test - 12V/9V/1.5V ±(2.5%+2)
• Diodes
• Auto Power Off
• Continuity Buzzer
• Low Battery Indication
• Date Hold
• Input Impedance for DCV ≥10MΩ

Below we also have a photo gallery.

Okay, let's move on to the measurements. The first test, measuring the AC voltage from the outlet; in my country, the transition from 220VAC to 230VAC was made, and since I have no other source, I directly measured the voltage from the outlet that passes through a simple cable.

Would you like to have the NCV function on your multimeters?

Measuring batteries, probably some of the weak and unreliable voltage sources, more recently rechargeable batteries are used, but we still use normal batteries. By mistrust, I mean the fact that I have encountered cases where the inscription of 1.5V or 9V is not respected, maybe I got a bad batch myself. I must mention that the batteries measured in the video are already used.

Do we have 12V on this power adapter? Let's see this in the video. I measured a simple power adapter with a 5.5*2.5 jack. There is a mi like difference, over 100mV, but it makes no difference if I feed an LED strip for example.

What do you think, should the true voltage value be somewhere in the middle?

A feature that we did not have on the old DMM is the measurement of DC amperes. With the new device I can measure amps with ease. In this case, I tested these bulbs at 12V, and it seems that they would consume somewhere around 1A. Look, in this case I have to mention a first thing that I would have liked to have, namely wires with crocodiles, or just crocodiles that I can connect to the probes. How to connect those wires to the device? I made auxiliary threads, with banana jacks and crocodiles, because I have needed something like this in the past. Even if they are not as qualitative as the probes of the device, but you can do your job with them.

Resistors, I have not addressed this aspect because I think that this DMM is quite capable of measuring resistors quite well.

BEEP BEEP!! A bittersweet sound. We like it when we have continuity in a circuit, on braids or wires, but we don't like it at all when we identify an unwanted short circuit. Laughing

You can see other features such as measuring capacitors (a function I like in this DMM) in another blog of mine, in which I made some comparisons with a dedicated capacitor. I have to say that I give this Multicomp a pretty high mark in this chapter, it really does honorably.

Another thing I like about this multimeter, it turns itself off, and it's not a mistake. It has an automatic shutdown function in case of inactivity, without sound warning, somewhere around 2 minutes I say, I couldn't find this in the catalog but I read that it goes into sleep mode after 15 minutes of use and consumes about 7µA. I really need to check this and come back with an opinion, I don't know if you all would like the DMM to stop out of the blue.

The probes are okay, quite long, they seem quite resistant, I mean the wires, I don't think they will break like it happened to me before with another device, it probably happened to you at some point. As I said before, it seems as if some crocodiles would have been useful.

Tell me in the comments what you think you liked, even what you didn't like, it's okay for me.

In conclusion, I like this DMM, I like the green color Grinning and I like that it is useful.

Thank you Element14 Community!

Have a nice day!

By the way, it seems that I can't upload videos to the blog, so they won't be available for a long time,  maybe you know another method by which I can permanently upload videos. I have them on my drive and at some point I will delete them because I am starting to run out of space.

I always upload to YouTube and then insert them into an e14 blog from YouTube, it works much more reliably for me.
