Unlimited CNC Robot Blog #4

In this update I will show where I am at with my project and setting up the laser. I will also show what I have added to my project. As a note, I don't do many videos so this won't be perfect.

I was thinking more along the lines of using a screw type arrangement for fine adjustment of the height of the laser before locking it off with the side screw as that could potentially lead to a motorised focus to allow a deeper cut. Start off focused at the surface then gradually lower the laser before resetting it back to the surface and advancing the robot.

Thanks Doug!! That is why I made a Plexiglas platform.

It is actually funny, the laser holder is a sleeve from a cabinet lock, fit perfectly. I will see if I can change the screw adjuster to be above the platform (Great idea!!). As for the laser cut depth, I will literally only get a burn line. If I used a 10w or higher laser it would cut through 3 - 5mm thick material (I just couldn't afford it).

Very nice chassis - it looks like it being clear helps to focus the laser.

    Making great progress.

Is the laser holder specifically designed for that laser ? Looks like it might benefit from some sort of a screw adjuster mechanism up top to help give more control when focusing, whilst also keeping fingers clear of the cutting end.

What sort of depth of cut are you expecting to achieve with that laser ? Just wondering if you may need to refocus whilst cutting to get a deep enough cut.
