Hello e14phil,
I've been contacted by UPS for the custom clearance for this kit. Is it correct to declare it as sample for me as an individual?
Thanks,
Hitesh

Hi Hitesh!
There's no need to declare it as a sample. The incoterms on the shipments from e14 are always DDP(Delivery Duty Paid). This means you don't have to pay anything e14 covers your cost.
Just provide the relevant documents to UPS for customs clearance.
I have got many shipments from e14 as kits and prizes for contests, but I never paid anything to UPS or Indian Customs.
You can also ask UPS about the incoterms of the said shipment.
Hi rsjawale24,
Thank you for your reply. On previous occassions, I received goods of this sort fine without any issues. Only this time, they contacted me and asked me for the following info.
- Customs procedure or reason for import (e.g. standard import, home use, return, sample, etc.)
- Commodity code or plain language goods description
- Your EORI number , If you do not have an EORI Number yet, just click the link below and register an EORI Number. Usually, EORI Number will be issued within 5-7 working days but just provide us the application reference number for the meantime so that we can complete the clearance instruction.
EORI application link: https://www.tax.service.gov.uk/customs/register-for-cds/isle-of-man?_ga=2.152458489.1198967774.1610979331-819598082.1598429078
- Approval to use your Deferment Account Number (DAN), where appropriate
- Any other information we must take into account when completing this Customs declaration on your behalf
So, out of their eg. for import, I thought sample seemed to be the most relevant in my opinion. I'm in the UK so they have given me a form to sign to declare in accordance with this: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/pay-no-import-duty-and-vat-on-importing-commercial-samples
They also pointed me to some specific sections (2.3, 2.4, 2.6, 3.7 & 3.8) of this Public notice 372 but I don't seem to find that document anywhere other than this webpage. I am going to ask them about this document anyway but thought if anyone had come across it already?
Thanks,
Hitesh
Hi Hitesh, Let me speak with the team involved with shipping and see what we can get you! Its rare to see this as we try to make it that we take all of the complexity out of shipping your kit.
Great, thank you so much and will look forward to your suggestions.
Ah! I thought it was Indian customs. My bad.
rsjawale24 thank you so much for your help and suggestions. There must be similar processes even if it's different country so your answer is useful anyways.
Hi Phil,
Just to confirm that I received the kit last week. Thanks very much for sorting it out.
Best,
Hitesh
