Just a short blog today to get everyone's thoughts. Part of this project means operating a blind, although for this it will not be connected to an actual blind (Although an old drive belt and some careful use of some foamcore could make a reasonable mockup of a blind on a window), the motor still needs to be controlled some how. Currently I am planning on using a stepper motor, possibly one of the several unidentified steppers. Quick tip for the hobbyist, or anyone in a jam, try old printers that are going out. A little bit of effort and you can get a few useful parts like motors, sensors and on occasion self contained power supplies.
To be able to control this motor, a reasonable driver solution is needed. TI have a nice range of options such as the DRV8818 EVM, but what would you suggest? Any preferences for driving stepper motors?
Preferably any option should have a simple control interface and be of a reasonbly low voltage and cost.
