Poll: How Would You Roadtest or Experiment with Noise Suppression Sheets?

kemet noise suppression sheetsGreetings.

I've been in contact with a supplier that makes Noise Suppression Sheets. These sheets are designed to suppress high frequency noise generated from the electronic devices or a product useful to EMC compliance. The flexible sheet is a polymer base, blended with micron-sized magnetic powders dispersed throughout the material. These sheets are effective for electromagnetic wave and resonance suppression, and can be cut into a variety of shapes and sizes.

The supplier was interested in sponsoring an activity on element14 that focuses on their noise suppression sheets. They were looking at a roadtest or a Experimenting with Components Design Challenge. I've placed an image of one version of the noise suppression sheets on the right.

Here is a link to the data sheet, which is very detailed. Pages 16 through 19 discuss on the sheets are applied.

Poll Question:  Would you be interested in testing or experimenting with these noise suppression sheets?

This looks super cool. Guess I'd better improve my RF detector. I will take a page from the Book of DAB and actually write down my ideas - before they slip away.

I don't have a current application but I have had in the past. It's a lot of work to set up a good test , especially if you are trying to improve RF susceptability of a device. I can think of applications…

This is interesting material. Unfortunately I don't have a TEM cell and spectrum analyzer to test it.

I have an idea. Usually RF measurements are done in anechoic chamber which are made using RF absorbers. There are PCB based absorbers which are often used to reduce the radar cross section (RCS) of an object. This sheet is similar to the mentioned absorbers. It could be tested by placing two antennas facing each other and doing power measurements by placing the sheet in between. One can also so some EMI/EMC measurements. image

I think this product would make a good challenge topic.

There are lots of possible applications to explore.

If you formed the sheet into a hat shape, people sensitive to microwaves would buy them.

I can think of applications where this might have been useful in previous projects.
