If you are looking for a way to interface the SD cards, there is no need for level shifters unless you are using a really high end card, you could simply interface it with the arduino with resistor voltage dividers. Some people recommend against using a resistor based circuit but I ran the bench-marking test for the one I built and it runs as good as the SD slot of the official Ethernet shield. A quick hack would be to solder directly onto a microSD adapter to break out the pins. Let me know if I can be of any help with the SD card interface.

Well I will be connecting an SD card but I have a solution... kinda... I have an ethernet shield which is possibly something I might use as a last resort. I could hack together you recommendation, but only as a last resort.
