My project is a robot vacuum created with an Arduino Uno and 3D printed components.

  • How well does the sweeping action work with the current design ?

     

    Also how long does it run for on a set of batteries ? I think you are right with induction charging as people would quickly tire of opening it up to swap the batteries. Induction would also allow the robot to self-charge easily when it detected it was running low on power. Emptying needs to be kept easy as well - perhaps a hinged flap that can be released whilst holding the unit over a bin might be more user-friendly.

     

    I notice that you refer to it as a robot vacuum however perhaps robot sweeper would be more accurate as there is no vacuum involved in this design. Over here in the UK, a lot of people still refer to vacuum cleaners as 'hoovers' after the original brand name of a successful vacuum cleaner 'Hoover' which dominated the market for nearly a century, but no longer does so.

     

    I'm not sure if anyone has attempted it or not but adding some personality such that it whimpered if it got stuck in a corner or muttered/grumbled if it encountered a stubborn patch could be rather entertaining. Cleaning robot M·O in the 'foreign contaminant' scene in the movie WALL·E is just brilliant.
