Not Another Pinball :O

quite some time back you had acquired a visor screen in which you had used an FPGA to drive it and you had mentioned about using it in a Pinball machine. To my knowledge I have not seen you use it yet. At least not on the show. Have you considered using it or have you, was wanting to see the outcome. Was actually impressed at how you did that, and it would be a shame if you have not used it after doing all that work, and I'm sure you are going to have another Pinball Wars coming up in the new year at some point.

    Got any ideas for it? Maybe something a little simpler than a pinball machine?

    Hmmm......

     

    Other than the pinball idea, which it was perfect for, that is a tough one to think of. I dunno, perhaps a number of things I can think of could be an over-sized calculator, a doomsday timer or New Year countdown, a marquee, a light organ, a statistics display that could poll like YouTube views and such and create a real time graph or chart or something, or even a binary clock that may have temperature and climate measurements as well. I dunno. Keep in mind, these ideas this screen would be overkill for, but not a whole lot else I can think of. Perhaps maybe some of the other viewers could chime in with some ideas for it.

     

    Whatever route he takes though if he does end up using it for one of the projects, after it's said and done. He saw the potential in it for a pinball display, I'd say he should still use it in one of his pinball projects. Sure would hate to see him give up on it.

     

    Hehe, he could always turn it into a lie detector, and us a micro controller to read sensors and display it on the screen as a scrolling printout of some sorts.image Sorry if I disappoint.

     

     

    Off topic: I never did properly greet you in your main thread. Great to see you on the team.image Oh and I want that avatar. Zelda was my favorite video game series growing up.

    I don't know what the visor screen looks like, so I can't really chime in on the ideas, but I appreciate your input.

    Thanks for the warm welcome! I do love me some Zelda. Ocarina of Time is probably my all time favorite game.

    I'm not sure it's exact dimensions, but it is narrow and really wide. I did however think of another solution that falls close to pinball and should be executed easier. But essentially a video slot machine. Not that I'm promoting gambling or anything. Not sure how he was addressing the signal he was feeding to the screen, but should be able to have a video ram bank and either draw the graphics to ram and page flip or have a wide enough off screen ram space to be able to just move the start pixel pointer row by row in ram sort of like a buffer and update the new pixels off screen. Could use  some buttons on the front for like stopping the reels or bets and such, and a mechanical lever on the side above a micro switch that triggers when fully engaged.

     

    Off topic, have you played the Master Quest version of OOT. When you beat it, you can play the Cow mode which by the way, happens to be pretty amusing.

    If it's wide and narrow that gets me thinking. A few years ago my friend made a pretty sweet Halloween costume, a Twitter pager. He built a wide digital readout that scrolled tweets with a certain hashtag. So guests at the Halloween party could tweet to it and it would show up on his chest. It scrubbed Twitter every 30 seconds or so. Here's a picture.

    The visor screen would probably not make as good of a cup holder, but might be small enough to put across the chest of a tshirt. Sounds like it could have more complex images as well. Could be a fun wearable to create.

     

    --I have not played the Master Quest version of OOT. Tell me more of this "Cow mode". I'm sorta picturing Goat Simulator, but with less floppy tongue.

    That does make another good idea, He did a portal t-shirt similar to that except what he done was used a camera to make it look like there was a hole going thru the person wearing it. Speaking of wearables, Some sports fans could geek out and have different sayings and cheers that would support their favorite team similar to painting or wearing jerseys or the infamous #1 finger, except in a techie way.

     

     

    --Tried to gather all my stuff to confirm my sayings, but alas, could not find my memory card from my Game Cube with the save. Long story short, you'd go into one of the dungeons and there would be cows in the walls. Turns out, the Master Quest version is that version but it made me laugh none the less. It's more of a challenge, most of the game plays the same except in the dungeons, the enemies and puzzles are "harder" Didn't phase me one bit.
