I recently got very interested in e-ink, the low power characteristics and good resolution, so I came up with an idea, but it is somewhat complicated. This would require both Ben and Felix, would include wiring, 3D printing, and coding, and this most likely could not be done in one week...
My project is the idea of a digital calendar/planner. My hopes is that one could use the e-ink display from an e-reader (either stand-alone unit or just trash an e-reader and take the guts), and use it to display something like a digital calendar, something that might sync with google calendar or similar programs. Perhaps using the horsepower from the raspberry pi zero, along with 3D printing a case and making the piece something for the office or next to the bed.
Of course I understand this might be a bit more complex than it needs to be, my coding skills are very basic. I also understand that this can be done using a regular LCD display, but I thought the project could benefit from the added gray-scale, as well as the low power and possible touch screen controls.
I am eager to hear what the community thinks of my idea, and if it is remotely feasible. I understand this is a difficult task, there are little resources on e-ink displays, and there are people who are much smarter than I who have tried with e-ink displays and moved on.
