DIY 3D printer filament extruder

I am willing to bet that someone has already emailed you guys on this. But figured it couldn't hurt to send it just in case.

If I remember correctly, in one episode Ben was remarking that he wished he had some way of making 3D printer filament. Especially if it could recycle old prints. This seems to fit the bill exactly. Love the show and always look forward to the next episode!

(As a full disclosure, I am in no way affiliated with this project)

As a separate note. I see Ben using what looks like a Hakko FX soldering iron station. Might I recommend that he upgrade to a Metcal MX compatible station or similar? Thermaltronics and a few others are making the new models based on the same technology. I was recently able to get an older model secondhand (PS2E-01) for almost nothing and have absolutely fallen in love with it. The precise control in functionality it affords would make things a lot easier for Ben/team in all their builds. I bet that Element14 could even spot you the gear for a promo shoutout.

The Kickstarter project you mentioned is just a rehash of the Filastruder. While it's an open source project where anyone can change parts and styles, the underlying concept is still the same. That's probably why it's not been funded yet. Filastruder was funded over 2 years ago, raised $212,278, and had 875 backers. Just like 3D printers, you can either buy a kit or build your own. The plans are out there. I believe what Ben has said is needing an easier or faster way of shredding failed 3D prints. That way they can be fed into the hopper.
