Nixie Bulbs

Hi, I've seen these old nixie tubes / bulbs. People get them and custom pcb's on ebay and make clocks that look fantastic. Can you show us how to make a clock like that?

  • I love the look of Nixie tubes and every time I see a project that incorporates them, it makes me go "Oooo." I would also love to see a project that uses Nixie tubes, but maybe we can some up with something a little cooler or more original. I wonder what else we could use them for...

  • Thank you for considering my idea for an episode! Unfortunatly I'm not so sure a regular nixie clock would be enough to fill a whole episode.

    My personal interest in them isn't just that I think they look cool and interesting. I actually wanted to make one for my store. I work in a car parking business here in Athens (Greece). When customers come to pickup their cars they have to wait a few minutes at my office while the parking attendant brings their car. So I'm always searching for interesting converastion pieces to talk about with my customers so they dont mind their waiting. Since everyone is looking at my clock, as thats how we charge (by the hour), I thought a nixie clock would be great!

    As you can see a few months have passed from my original post. Unfortunatly I am unable to purchase the parts to make one because here in Greece the banks have capitol controls and I cant buy anything from ebay. So I've given up on it (sad face me).

    On a happy note I'm really looking forward to watching you guys doing something with them! I'll be really proud!

    That's really great, George! Sorry you can't buy your own nixie tubes. I guess we'll just have to come up with a pretty neat project in which to use them.
