I think a great project for Ben to do on the show would be to assemble a custom mechanical keyboard.
There are a few PCB kits available Phantom PCB , ErgoDox.org which can then be fixed with any configuration of key switches.
Typically they have cutouts for a Teensy controller
I would especially like to see his take on an Ergodox:
