Interfacing TFT displays taken from broken/old laptops to Arduino and/or Rasperry

Hey Ben,

I see you have great experience on connecting old LCD/TFT panels you have lying around to your projects.

I wanted to see a tutorial/tips on connecting/interfacing TFT/LCDs taken from old equipment (i.e. an old laptop or even a monitor) to an Arduino and/or Raspberry project.

I found a project on a shield that is focused on cell-phone and small displays (per the link below) but I am looking more into the larger (14 inch) displays that can be found on laptops and monitors.

MIPI DSI Display Shield/HDMI Adapter • Hackaday Projects

I do have a Samsung LTN141 that I got from an HP laptop and tought of interfacing with a Raspberry and install it on a PC to display the time, news, temperatures on the PC, etc. But could not find any examples or parts to help drive it from an HDMI port or to interface with an Arduino.

Tought having a general purpose tutorial on how recycle parts from old hardware lying around (TFT and battery cells for example) might be a good theme for a 'Green' show.

Ben has answered this in an FAQ video afaik. He said it's largely not worth it to mess with old laptop displays as it's easier and often just as cheap (because you'd often need a controller to drive the display) to just outright buy a display meant for the interface you require.

Thanks for the info. Thought it would probably be the case but there could be someone out there supplying a general-purpose interface with the controller/circuitry.
