DIY Android Thermostat

Smart Thermostats are awesome, but ridiculously expensive. There has to be a cheaper, DIY alternative to the NEST. I would like to see some sort of DIY for an android tablet based thermostat. Something that I could assemble and program myself to control my thermostat via tablet and via wifi. Something along the lines of http://androidthermostat.com/. This project has not been updated in a while and does not contain any of the "safety" features a traditional thermostat would.

         Should be not too difficult. Just get a thermistor to read the temp. A blue tooth/wireless solution with MCU next. Add  relay switches to turn on/off the heater/air conditioner/fan. Most of these work on a 12 volt circuit, but you need to check with your current controls.Guessing a low of 50 dollars but could be more depending on part sourcing.
