Iphone to landline converter

Hi,

I really love your schows. I learned already a lot of little tricks. thanks for that

I am really into old telephones. and i would really like not to throw them away.
and now I thougt about linking my old iPhone 3GS to the landline, or an old pstn, without losing any functions, like dialling, answering calls etc...
is there any possibility to make an converter to link my iphone (fysically or with bluetooth)?

Seems like this was thought of in https://www.quora.com/Is-it-possible-to-replace-traditional-dial-up-via-PSTN-POS-with-smartphone-+-EMV-dongle-What-will-be-the-challenges. Could I suggest looking at VOIP instead. You get landline conviences with many added features.

I agree with clem57.
There are some great VOIP services out there that offer PAYG services, which are ideal for experimentation.
I have experimented with both, and suffered at the hands of PSTN interfacing and the different voltages/configurations that exist between networks.

If you absolutely insist on using a landline you could look into the device I was using at the time, the SPA3102: Cisco SPA3102 Voice Gateway with Router - Cisco

thanks for the answers.
unfortunately, here in belgium, we do not have so much VOIP services, even skype does not give us an local landline number.
But I do not need a new number, I just want to use my cellphone with my old landline phones. So i can get home, put hem in his charger and receive calls with the pstn phone.
there are some products made like this, but are very expensive here (around 160 euro, or 180 dollars) IT51781 Cobra Phonelynx | eBay.

I just wondered if it would be easy to make

So you would just like to use the PSTN hardware as an interface for your iPhone? I.e. your phone would be interfacing with the landline handset, not with the PSTN? That wouldn't be impossible at all, you'd basically just need to generate the 48-ish volts DC to drive the handset (if it's not connected to the PSTN) as well as the 90-ish volts AC to tell the phone to ring when your iPhone is ringing, as well as a bit of kit to transfer the audio from the iPhone over BT and convert it to the right signal levels. A bit of thought has to go into how the phone line stuff is done if the handset is to remain connected to the PSTN simultaneously as it's connected to the iPhone, as you wouldn't probably want to feed anything into the PSTN. Off-hook might be nice to transfer back into the PSTN so that people calling on the landline get a busy tone.

On the VoIP line, I'm sure that most ISPs in Belgium offers that service, but it might not be marketed that much. At the very least, they must be able to offer you a SIP-trunk, which you can then connect to a voice gateway of some sort, Asterisk comes to mind.
