Raspberry Pi Car Stereo?

How about building a Raspberry Pi based car stereo with mp3 player and maybe basic navigation?   Maybe use the amplifier from an old car stereo?  This is a great project!

  • I have been considering doing something similar, so this could be useful for me too. In theory, I want to mount a 7", and put a small car stereo behind it to control the speakers. The idea is to use the Pi to manage media, maybe a backup camera too. Navigation would be a nice addition. I had planned to use an external LCD driver board that allowed multiple inputs and just switch between them for each function. By that I mean, tablet for GPS (DVI), Pi for media management (HDMI), backup camera (composite). I eventually want to include Tactrix cable info for gauges as well.
