I have always like adapters and converter boxes, but want to learn how they work. I think it would be cool to build a converter box with inputs like composite, s-video, and/or component that then output to svga or dvi. I have found the ADV7181 series chips, but have no real idea how to use them. The idea is to use an LCD monitor for old gaming systems, cable boxes, or digital converter boxes for broadcast signals, but further expansion is always welcome. A more universal box would of course be better, but more complicated. The highest end of the project would be universal inputs of composite, s-vdieo, component, svga, dvi, hdmi, displayport, with up-converting and also down-converting with all the same outputs with selectable inputs and outputs. Even further would be to add resolution control, and refresh control (though that would really only add support for duck hunt, in theory).
