I've been thinking about this for a while, and I think this would be a cool build, what I was thinking was to use a raspberry pi

VESA mount to put it on the back of a TV

Or I could just use this when it is actually for sale, https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pitouch/pitouch-10-touchscreen-monitor-for-raspberry-pi-ma/description

    Found this http://www.mcmelectronics.com/prod/83-14422?utm_expid=8634549-26.Dd9EzNMpSwu0F_ZUPjdD2A.1&utm_referrer=r.duckduckgo.com

Actually a good idea, Install Kodi and a USB stick, wireless USB and sit down with popcorn for great movies

Thanks I already have the installation of OpenELEC working just need the VESA mount, I've drawn the design three times

to make sure it all would work in the limited space, and the best connection would be HDMI but the cables are so stiff it

would be difficult to get it to fit in the space

Get an extension like a right angle, to help. see http://www.amazon.com/s?ie=UTF8&page=1&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Aright%20angle%20hdmi%20cable for examples.

Thanks, those right angle connectors will help with the build's final steps.

could you recommend a brand that is the most durable?

Unless you are very rough, I would think most are fine. Like you said, too much tension will overtime give much trouble.

I Was also thinking about a custom case to cover up the back of the TV with a curved back, so it sort of resembles a TV that  you would find at a Walmart facing the entrance.
