LCD Coffee Table

labq

With the cost of LCD TVs coming down in price, I have thought about building an LCD into a coffee table. Much like the table a top arcade. The coffee table is a great place to have games and when it's not being used as a game system it could scroll news feeds. The key will be how to interact with it? It can't be a touch screen because if anyone puts anything on it could interact with it (a sweating glass will act like a person touching it). I have thought about something simple like a small wireless keyboard like we use with a raspberry pi but I want something more elegant. I also have looked at LEAP motion. https://www.leapmotion.com/ but not sure if it would make it easy to type out things.
On top of all this it would be cool if when off it looks like there is no LCD and is just a normal coffee table.

Maybe some gesture recognition sensors would work as a way of providing a user interface? Lucie

You can get some good arcade style buttons, and even a suitable trackball from somewhere like here: Mini Illuminated Trackball - Arcade World UK
