The holy grail of arcade controls - Star Wars Flight Yoke

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

With less and less working yokes out there, the price of a Star Wars Flight Yoke has become more and more cost prohibitive for arcade enthusiasts out there.  However, there is no substitute for using this unique controller for playing SW, ESB, and ROTJ.

I would love to see if you can make a replica of this unique piece of arcade history using modern maker tools and machinery and get it running on Mame.

Thanks for the reply Cristina. I agree in theory that it might not be the most difficult to make, after all it needs to be doable in 1 show. Though flight yokes are very prevalent, all of them on ebay…

    Thanks for the reply Cristina.

I agree in theory that it might not be the most difficult to make, after all it needs to be doable in 1 show.

Though flight yokes are very prevalent, all of them on ebay are the push and pull variety which would not work for these games.

I think the feel of the control will be the hardest to get right.  There is a reason why they go for hundreds of dollars on ebay.  Though analog, the Star Wars yoke is very fast.

I've researched the DIY versions already.  One of these uses handles from a kid's toy and other one is made of PVC plumbing pipes.  Which would not be acceptable to most in the arcade reproduction community.

I'm wondering if Ben can make one using modern maker tools such as 3d printers, CNC cutters etc. to make an acceptable analog.
