Build a console out of random console components

terrariola
terrariola over 10 years ago

Try and build a gaming console out of random components out of consoles from 1990 to 2007

what about the processor from a Sega genesis and the GPU from an xbox 360 and the power supply from a PS3

and another GPU from an SNES and a sound card from an NES

maybe throw in a second processor from a Sega dreamcast

Goal: Make a console out of random console components that pop up in your head while you are making the other components

the problem is game system are built like laptops most parts like ram, cpu, gpu's are solder directly to the systemboard. Then you have the problem with the OS possibly not being copatiable with the parts…

The big question I have is what games will it be able to play?  Sure, it might be possible to make the "Frankenstein Console," but it won't do much good unless some games can be developed for it.  It might, however, be interesting if it could play several consoles' games, and maybe use one optical drive for all. image

the problem is game system are built like laptops most parts like ram, cpu, gpu's are solder directly to the systemboard. Then you have the problem with the OS possibly not being copatiable with the parts such as the cd drive such as the cd drive on the second generation XBox being slaved to the systemboard it was connected to (I think it was this one). You tried to use it such as a cd drive for a computer or even in another XBox it simply would not reconize it. Then there is the mention about the games needing to be writen for this frankensteined system. Then Power requirements allot of newer chipset you lower voltage then older system but aplly to much curent, you fry your circut so power management circuts would have to be built. We are talking something that could possible take years to build and code and wih how ben likes to keep the shows by working on diffrent projects every so often it literlly could take a decade and there still would be no assurance the thing would work.
