Tablet Dev Board

Former Member

I had an idea for a dev board that would be built into a tablet, with the ability to program an onboard microcontroller and also just use a simple interface to control individual outputs. So imagine being out on site somewhere, and you need to check a circuit, or some code; you would simply use a pinout on the tablet to interface with the system, and be able to both program a code fix, and check circuitry. For added complexity, you could even include a built in multimeter and/or oscilloscope!

I have thought of a similar system and i was going to use a raspberry pi2 and a 15" laptop screen but i might use one of these Raspberry Pi 7” Touchscreen Display   and then i was going to hook up a bus pirate, open bench logic analyzer, TI SA-430 spectrum analyzer, Ardunino pro mini and what ever else i can fit in but it will be about an inch thick and once you get the batterys fitted it will be quite heavy but it is not meant to be a toy and over time it could be made smaller.

That sounds great! But what if you used an even larger screen? You would have much more room to fit components on. And here's idea! Would you be able to isolate the elements of each piece that you want to incorporat, and build a custom 'dreamboard' on Element 14, or even just design a pbc and order the board and individual components? Then you would save a ton of space by cutting out bulk of what you don't need, and it would all be one board, so less thicknes. Last idea: how about using a lithium polymer battery on it. You could get one with a lot of base area, but minimal thicknes.
