CHIP computer VLC Thing audio player with speaker output

Hi Ben,

I have a backe the CHIP $9 computers from KickStarter and now have at my house a few of them. I want to make one work as a VLC media thing for home audio integration since it will deffinatly be cheaper than getting a SONOS.

The idea is to build a low cost speaker system which will have a display output separate from the audio/video jack currently available on the CHIP dev board

The ability to RDP into the CHIP computer over the network using RDP/TeamViewer/etc.

And to connect it to some sort of a speaker output.

With all of that, CHIP would become a Cheap way to not use SONOS.

Can you help me get this put together? Or at least give me direction on how I can build this on my own.

Regards,

Leo M.

What operating system distribution are you using? How much space is available?

If you wish not to use the built in audio(not sure why?), the alternate is using the GPIO (probably low quality and not stereo):

    GPIO

GPIO provides basic digital connections to the physical world to create physical products with CHIP. These pins can act as ‘reads’ or 'writes’, for example, to sense switch positions or turn an LED on or off.

CHIP’s most easily available IO pins are the “XIO” pins on header U14. This is the “GPIO eXpander” that uses an I2C bus to create eight (8) convenient pins for GPIO. These use address 0x38 on the TWI bus 2. Other pins are available for GPIO if more than eight are needed.

Read and Write From Command Line

CHIP has several General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO) pins available for you to build around. If you want to access them in a very primitive way, just to confirm their existence, here’s some things to try.

Or attaching a sound card($5-10) via USB that has driver code in Debian.
