two-zone sound meter

Former Member

Hi!

I'm trying to build a two-zone sound meter that triggers a light/sound if a present limit is exceeded.  I would be using it while flying a small plane my young daughter and want to be sure her hearing protection is working properly.  So, at least one sensor would need to fit inside an aviation headset ear cup.  I would also like to monitor the sound level (dB) in each zone in real time.  I envision monitoring the ambient noise in the cabin as well as the sound level in the headset.  The ability to expand the monitor with additional sensors would be great! Obviously, there are many more situations besides airplanes where monitoring sound levels is useful.

Thanks for the time and advice!

Tony

The Seeedstudio Grove sound / loudness sensor may be of interest to you for this project:

There are some examples of using it to illuminate a LED once a preset level has been exceeded on their wiki

    http://www.seeedstudio.com/wiki/Grove_-_Loudness_Sensor

    http://www.seeedstudio.com/wiki/Grove_-_Sound_Sensor

The Grove system provides an easy way of connecting a number of sensors and actuators to a variety of controllers via a base shield without the need for additional tools.

One sound sensor module is included in the Grove Starter kit for Arduino

    https://www.seeedstudio.com/item_detail.html?p_id=1855

along with a LED and buzzer. Up to four sound level modules can be connected to the v2 shield and the kit comes with a LCD display panel which could be used to give you your real time monitoring of levels.
