3D print a smart heating-cooling register. Battery powered, operated with an inexpensive r/c servo. Communicate with either blue tooth or wifi. Perhaps add remote temperature sensing. Unused portions of a home could be shut down saving energy. A company named Keen (http://keenhome.io) makes such a device, but at $80+ each, it seems a DIY version could be significantly cheaper. If real elegant, it operates with main thermostat, set from cell phone.
