I've always preferred trackballs over conventional mice but when it comes to gaming they never have enough buttons nor a proper scroll wheel. I was thinking of maybe getting an affordable gaming mouse, taking it apart, find a ball, and redesign it as a track ball. If finding and designing a mount for the ball is too difficult, maybe get an old track ball, keep the ball mount but maybe partially design the rest and use some sort of micro controller for extra buttons, scroll-wheel, and such.
Anyway just spouting out an idea for possibly a quick episode
