Hi guys
You asked for a build suggestion with rfid reader.
I always wanted to put a post outside my garden gate, with a rfid reader and camera, to buzz visitors in.
I would like it to open a lock on the gate when my family rfids the post (it needs to comunicate with a electronic lock or solenoid of some kind).
I´d also like to have a camera/microphone/speaker in the post and a button, so that visitors could press the button, I could then see and talk to them from a Raspberry with a small touchscreen/iPhone and "buzz" them in (or not).
Of course this should all be powered by a Raspberry or two, every time the rfid opens the gate or I open/deny the gate or the button is pressed, it should be loged with data and a picture taken from the camera and saved on the raspberry inside the house. This log would then be published from the same raspberry on a webserver for easy browsing.
Personally, I would place the outdoor stuff in a steel beam bolted to a concrete block in the ground outside my gate, and a raspberry with touchscreen inside my house by the door, but anything goes, a box of somekind should do it outside. I think people would love a connection to the phone aswell. Another nice to have extra would be a pairing with home automation kits such as nexa/fibaro or z-wave stuff (you could have it turn on lights when button is pressed). This would be an awesome gate/door solution.
Best regards
Richard
