On-The-Go Power Generation

jlhollifield

I remember reading an article a long time ago about obscure technologies that could revolutionize the future, and one of them was wearable jewelry that could generate electricity, with the idea that it could be collected into a grid through the shoes of the people wearing it. My idea is a little less invasive on the body. My idea is a suit or set of items that can generate electricity to charge a wearable battery pack, that could then charge mobile devices. The most obvious solution would be a means of harvesting energy from walking, but the jewelry  I saw could also harvest from arm movements and even blinking. I would like to see what Ben and the crew could come up with.

I remember seeing a military jacket and trousers that did the same -- generated power as the wearer moved around. Would love to see that in production!

I tried that once. A small project, creating what I suppose you could call a Half-Life EV Suit. Safety shoes, safety trousers, kevlar plating... Yeah, I worked in industrial environments, and this prototype was supposed to monitor heart-rate, body temperature, and record external sources like impact to the body (and trigger an alarm if the impact was too high), as well as gas sensors (nitrogen was a risk for us). All in all, it was designed to keep people safe, and we tried to use piezo-electric generators, to harvest what we could. Horrendously expensive, and it didn't give us anywhere close what we needed for operations. However, that was a long time ago, I'd like to try the project again one of these days, even if I no longer work with robotic arms that could kill me if we got things wrong...
