Building a Pokedex

Former Member
Former Member over 10 years ago

Hello,

I am following this blog from Adrian Rosebrock

Building a Pokedex in Python: Getting Started (Step 1 of 6) - PyImageSearch

It is workin out of a RaspberryPi2, and you can modify this code to grab live pictures of POKEMON with the RaspBerryCam.

Would'nt it be fun  to build a POKEDEX case (or retrofitting the Nintendo Pokémon Gameboy) and integrate a PI (or the Pi Compute Module... second chance) with Color LCD touch screen and RPcam to start chasing POKEMONS ?

Regards

This looks awesome! As a Pokédex it looks fun but I could see it having real-world applications as well. If you could switch out the the catalog of things it identifies, I could see this device answering the one question that always comes up when I'm hiking: Is that poison ivy? Really cool idea!

    Hello Jazmin,

Actually it is pretty easy to add this feature:

    1. Add a USB wifi dongle an connect to Internet
    2. Take picture
    3. just switch the OpenCV backend and upload jpeg file to this site:
    4. https://www.tineye.com/
    5. And ''Kadabra'' !!! you'll  get a  lot, I mean a lot of info !!

That would work when there's internet access but what if I'm hiking where that's not guaranteed? What if I'm traveling and I don't want to get hit with roaming data charges? I think that having at least some data locally cached would help make the device disruption tolerant.

    LOL  !!!

    OK You got me...

On the next project we will work on PokeBall with a builted-in satellite transceiver and  wifi hot spot so you can hunt safely.
