Split ps4/pc controller

Basically a Controller with the button layout of the ps4,  but physicallyvsplut in 2 sections. May or may not make touch pad useless. Ideally would like it just to have the layout of the ps4 controller, I doubt I will actually use this on a ps4 even though I own one. I would like to assemble one of these together myself. It will probably have to be a pc controller. As far as charging goes I was thinking of either separate batteries that charge from the mount base or being wired directly to the mount base. I would like this controller for a bigger project I have in mind.

 

Sorry, I understand building a Controller to these specs is ambitious and may mostlikeky have to be built from scratch. If I can just be given an instructions on how to do this that would be enough.

  • Ben Heck has several videos on YouTube that cover how to do this. The ones I've watched have all been with xbox controllers which look relatively easy to mod both in terms of splitting the controller in half and also moving the various parts of the controller around to make the layout how you want it. I know in at least one video he says the Playstation controller is harder to mod because of the silkscreen board it uses is hard to solder to. I don't know if he made any videos about working specifically with playstation controllers. You mention you're not planning to use this with a ps4. If you're going to use it with a pc an xbox controller can be used, just split it and mod the layout. I know my post isn't an instruction like you asked for but I hope it helps a bit.

    Thank you. I think I'll just change the layout of an Xbox controller like you recommended. And regarding a split controller I meant it more like it's still basically both sides, but in two separate parts. Still I think a Xbox one controller with a changed layout and 3D printed casing would be a good start. The project I want to do with it I haven't really described well. I wanted to make something similar to the occulus touch, but with out the hand tracking right away. I can probably save the original board to place is some sort of docking station though. The point to making something like an occulus touch, but not made for hand position tracking, would just be to see if it's worth replicating from scratch by means of guess work on my part, before I try to do anything more fancy.

     

    So in short your recommendation was very helpful fir tackling it from a different angle. And I may have gotten over technical,  but you ate right about bashing it off an Xbox controller and changing the layout. It makes it 10x easier.
