Guitar recorder for gigs or just jamming

my idea is to plug a guitar amp head into a device then the device into the guitar speaker that will record everything that is sent to the speaker in real time. simple operation of plug it in, press a button to record, unplug, press a button to stop. plug it into a computer and drag and drop the simple WAV files ready for edits. I figure this is great for when your playing live and you play something really awesome or want to know what it was that you played at random because you messed up and had to improvise live.

This might do what you're suggesting:

    Gibson Memory Cable

Looks like gibson beat you to it image

    Nice idea though!

Dam. But my idea is for the device to go between the amp head and speaker, not between guitar and amp. This is so no matter what pedals and effects you use, they willl be recorded.  Also the simple act of only two buttons.

It won't sound very good if you record the output of a power amplifier - might be OK for you but there would be very little market for it.

The Gibson thing is awful - like a huge abscess on your cable and last century specs (44.1kHz sampling rate and 16 bit).

You can buy a little digital recorder from about £70 for basic to a few hundred for really nice  - no bother to make a resistor divider for the odd occasion where you just can't get a line level signal and need to pick up from a speaker output.

Agreed on the aesthetics, though people have stated they can (and have) reversed the cable so that the blimp is at the amp end.
