CD drive CNC 'decal maker'

Hi Ben. I've been a huge fan of yours for a long time now and this other day i got inspired by a YouTube video I saw. In it a guy built an cnc machine out of old CD drives. It wasn't strong enough to carry a dremel so he just used it to draw. My idea however is to replace the pen with some sort of thing that cuts paper easily like a laser or something. The idea is to cut out paper masks that you could place over any surface and use to spray on decals (i hope you understood that. im not the best at explaining).

Here's the video i talked about:

Another way to achieve that is to use a vinyl cutter, Cricut, or any other plotter than can hold a small knife. Depending on how big of a mask you need to make, you can acquire a machine to do that for not too much money (~$100?). I have a 34" vinyl cutter that I paid $300 for and it absolutely does the trick for that.

It would be a fun experiment to try to use old CD drives to build a CNC machine, but not likely time or cost effective as you could just buy a robust machine at a reasonable cost.
