    If someone else plans to do something similar, its a good idea to put the motor on the high side of an N Channel FET (so low side switching) especially when using a higher voltage supply than what your micro is running on, otherwise you could bring your source voltage up enough to limit the current or turn your FET off.

     

    Or you can use gate drivers and not really worry about this :-)
