**Plastic bottle melting device

I drink a lot of water and have many, maybe hundreds, of bottle scattered around my house. instead of throwing them out, i want to make things out of the plastic and 'reduce my carbon footprint.'

i tried a few ways, but i kept burning the plastic.

this project would be very useful to me and anyone who hoards plastic for 'later use.'

If I remember correctly different plastics have different melting points.  Some may be low, some may be high.  I'm not sure if the recycling classification (the number in the recycling symbol) has any correlation on it.

It'll be intresting if someone could trully pull off the "Digi-Vina" home digital music to vynil record presser that takes plastic bottles and makes records. image

As to your question, the number on the recycling symbol does indeed refer to the type of plastic an object is made of. Also there was some work done on how to recycle bottles in an attempt to make filament that could be used by the makerbot and reprap 3d printers. The information I had found on this was at: http://recyclebot.tumblr.com/archive
