NES lightgun for LCD/plasma idea

For those of us retro gamers that love the joy of using the original systems and controllers I had an idea. Why not find a way to convert an NES lightgun to work on LCD/Plasma screens. Perhaps modifying them to accept positional data like they do with infared on Wii's and other current gen systems? Or a clear shield put in front of the tv that would allow the correct target to be properly read. I don't know just an idea I had.

I belive the issue with the NES Zapper is the limmitations of the hardware it self. There is alot of details I am skipping by here, and its something due to how the Zapper recives input. The zapper is not a true light gun like other systems and quite simplistic, perhaps too simplistic. The Zapper to not look for objects, but a light diffrencal in the scrren. Every time you pull the trigger the whole screen flash black(for like 1 frame), except for valid dtarget which flash as white squares producing a particular spectrum of light (which thats the key their) .The Zapper after reciving the appropate data sends it back to the NES console.  Some CRT screens and all LCD scrrens can't produce that 1 fequency of light the Zapper needs, hence why id do not work. Only work around I seen is to change the hardware, which mean emulators.

I realize this and this is why I proposed an object between the screen that would simulate that signal for where the target was, or a retrofit to current infared technology which is useable with current tv styles. I am glad that you put forth the information about the zapper for others who may not have known about it though so that they might be able to leave their opinions.
