Challenge that doesn't involve a game system

I can see most of the forum is interested in game systems. I appologize if my interests digress. Bear with me. This is good for everyone who wants to share videos of themselves playing their game systems to YouTube.image

I have a Speed HD 50Z digital video camera. I love it except for three nagging issues.

1. Batteries must be charged externally and the camera has no way to video while plugged in. Thus, filming must be stopped during a battery change. That's a problem if the event your are filming lasts longer than the charge in your battery.

2. The built in charge meter on the display goes from 4 bars, to two bars, to totally dead in a matter of seconds. Combine this inaccuracy with problem one, and you are bound to miss the most important part of the event you are trying to film.

3. Zoom goes from wide angle to microscopic in huge leaps.

For problem one, I would love to see a mod that allows operation of the camera while plugged in. The USB port seems to provide enough power to transfer SD card data, but not enough to run the camera or charge the battery. I imagine the USB could be repurposed to accept power and distribute it to the battery circut, or a battery sized adaptor could be created to accept power from a plug and simulate the function of a battery. In my perfect world, this battery shaped power adaptor, would utilize a mini USB so I don't have to add yet another cord to my camera bag.

For problem two, Perhaps a more accurate LED meter could be fashioned to show state of battery charge?

For problem three, I'm probably just dreaming. I think zoom is implemented with software, but perhaps substituting the zoom joystick could allow for more refined function.

Thanks for considering this no-game-system request.
