Viewer Challenge: HDD POV clock (HardDiskDrive PersistenceOfVision Clock)

Former Member over 14 years ago

I, jcolefran (Jason) have a challenge from australia.

I have been trying to build a hard drive POV clock for some time, but i have come to the conclusion that it is beyond the depth of my knowledge and now i challenge you (ben heck)(the ultimate hacker, modder, and thinkerer, etc.) to do what i couldnt and build a hard drive clock. image

And yes, for it to be even harder, the author of the work whom i tryed to copy speaks a different language. image

specifically, i am after a certain type. this one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XK9en2H7rBA to be precise

(i have included plain text versions and hyperlinked version for those who just dont like clicking links or their computers dont, or even they are just paranoid ?)

I had much trouble trying to acquire some documents and eventually acquired almost all, however im am fairly sure i never backed them up before my computer got re-?booted? (wiped).

now the catch: for it to be ARDUINO powered !!!! image image image image

GOOD LUCK and feel free to contect me on my email Ben image

cheers, Jason

Yes, unfortunatly that is the case, and is why i would like some help translating the text, so that i could probably try and find the password or its whereabouts. thanks again, jcolefran.

the password protected page leads to a statistics website so im not sure how that goes along with the project, have you tried asking on the forum that the original post is on?

    Hey Jason,

I'm also an Aussie fan! I got my first Arduino a week ago and this sounds like a great project for it!

It would be awesome to see Ben do something with this. I think the most difficult part would be the code. But Ben could show us how to make a super fricken ripper of a case to mount it in!

The links you provided look interesting and the Code at the end of the page is actually commented in English.

I've found further info and links (in English) here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1asNB0te0o

Not sure if it's mentioned in the links. But I think the key to making this nice and bright is getting the LEDs to shine onto the bottom platter through the gap. Perhaps removing the middle platter would work best?

    Cheers,

    Scott

good to see other aussie guys on here : ) . the video you linked different code, and what im particularly interested in is the modes in the video i posted. usually the LEDs are a flexible strip of RGB smd LEDs and are lighting up a piece of paper under the platter.

im definitely looking forward to a case !

    cheers ~ jason
