Viewer Challenge: Add A Tablet to a Fridge

Former Member
Former Member over 14 years ago

Hi Ben,

I thought this might be cool. I Really like the samsung fridge with an onboard tablet, but I can't justify the price. So , what I would like to do is add a Tablet on the cheap to an existing fridge. I was thinking of a 7' android tablet (archos), loaded with refrigerator useful apps, that could be dock in the fridge door. Docking would allow the tablet to be removed and a little more useful than the samsung one. What do you think?

Thanks

John k

what would your exact functionality be? I know seeing the weather on the fridge is cool but i'd bring it around the house aswell. now if you want to automate maybe pulling meat out of the freezer to thaw or to get drinks out and putting it on a conveyorbelt to get to you around the house thatd be pretty sick

Fridgepad sounds nice, but I would have to always go to the fridge to use it.  Need a bit of portability.

Even better, do this on a small fridge modified to be a kegerator. It'd be really cool for displaying what's on tap.

I like all these ideas. Originally I just wanted emulate what samsung did with there fridge, but having portability would be cool. I would even add another idea, an ir camera inside the fridge displaying the contents on the tablet would be really cool.

i am currently going with this project myself.  I am using white, velcro sticky black tape, so i can take it on and off at ease.

    here is some:  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Velcro-Sticky-Back-Tape-White-20/17190472

6 years ago i redid my kitchen with ge stove, microwave, dishwasher, and 2 door fridge and new cabinets, island, etc....     but neatly slapping a $50 tablet on the fridge, and replacing the smaller appliances with white GE like toaster, coffee pot and stuff is the next step.

some good apps for it would be:

    -weather, calendar

       fridge/kitchen specific:

    -recipies

-shopping list, would be cool w/ food inventory and frequently bought products

-id like to see some more

i would like some suggestions for a tablet on the cheap i can use... preferably white, but i suppose i can paint it...

i saw a 7" android pandigital novel, i wonder what apps it supports...  i may juist pick it up anyways next paycheck, as i enjoy reading, and there are plenty of free ebooks, like on project gutenberg
