Been busy and have not had a chance to log in. Just got an "Osepp Uno" for my birthday (several months late). Anyway, appararenly Frys carries them now. Anyone have any experience with them?

I believe that is a clone of Arduino Uno. A good place to start with Arduino would be Jeremy Blums video tutorials.

    Thanks

    Drew

Thanx. I used wget to get a lot of the content. Done a bit with the personal computer parallel port. Was really interested in the i2c interfacing after looking at the list.

What type of i2c devices are you looking to interface your Arduino with?

    Cheers,

    Drew

BTW, not sure if you saw this one - it's Jeremy's i2c Arduino tutorial he made for element14:

Thanx for the link to the video. Saved it. Actually I have a two fold reason to know about the i2c bus. First for the temp controllers and secondly for a compass that I want to hook to my computer. I found a circuit that allegedly will work with the parallel port. I have a computer dvr that gets input from over the air TV. (i.e. not cable). I would like to use the compass to get data so that I can direct the antenna towards certain tv staions. We get about 60 stations all for free, but it would be nice to get more. Some places are not so lucky around the country.  The antenna is turned by an old stepper I pulled from a floppy drive that will also be controlled from the parallel port. Kind of a neat set up.  May use the same idea for a directional wifi antenna. Guerilla networking (off the internet) is becoming big here.

That's a very interesting project, I look forward to hearing about it as it progresses.

Is there a reason why you are focusing on the parallel port for interfacing?  You should be able to use the USB connection between your Osepp Uno (aka Arduino) and your computer to communicate using a simple serial connection.

    Cheers,

    Drew

You are certainly right, but why waste the port. Since the parallel port on the system being used as a DVR will not be printing, I would like to use it for interfacing and other home automation ideas. No reason to leave the osepp tied to the pc for such a menial purpose as the compass. To me the osepp can be used for other stand alone projects and experimenting (aka division of labor so to speak). I would have still researched the i2c interface via the arduino whether or not I had the osepp. Personal computers are so underused.

Ah, yeah - that's a good point.  I had done interfacing via parallel port for LED display I built years ago.  If I did it again, then I probably would have use opto-isolators just to be safe.
